Live Chat

Let listeners talk to each other, and to whoever is on air.

Live chat puts a chat room beside the player on your Listen page. It is off until you turn on Live chat in the Site Builder, under Features. You can also add it to any page as a section, from Add, under Community.

For listeners

Listeners type a name and a message, and the room updates every few seconds. Signed-in listener accounts have their name filled in. Messages are plain text, up to 280 characters, and the chat shows the last day of conversation.

In the Studio

The Studio shows the chat for whoever is on air:

  • Reply posts as you, marked Presenter so listeners know it is the station talking
  • Hide removes one message
  • Mute for a day removes everything that person said today, and stops them posting for 24 hours

Presenters, editors and above can moderate. Muting works without knowing who anyone is: it follows the same anonymous browser identity as votes and likes.

Keeping it friendly

  • The blocked words under System Settings, in Listener messages, also apply to the chat. A message containing one is refused.
  • Each person can post once every few seconds, and the chat is rate limited. Behind a reverse proxy, enable TRUST_PROXY so the limit applies per visitor.
  • Auvyra keeps the last 300 messages and deletes older ones. The chat is never included in a station export.
